You may be doing your best to keep your carpets clean, but it seems that no matter what you do, dirt and other debris keeps getting tracked in. You may have everyone in your house remove their shoes the moment they step through the door, and whether or not that’s successful, you still notice dirt getting tracked in.
Believe it or not, the walkways that lead to your home can have a direct impact on the cleanliness and condition of your carpets inside the house. That’s because leaves, dirt, and other items will collect on the surfaces. When people are walking through leaves and dirt, it’s getting caught on the soles of the shoes, but it can also be kicked up and caught in their socks and even sift down into their shoes.
In that short amount of time from the walkway to just inside the front door where they remove their shoes, they could already be tracking in dirt and other contaminants. Also, when people take their shoes off just inside the front door or other entry door, they have a tendency to remove them right where they stand before placing them on a mat or cubicle, for example.
As such, the dirt that gets knocked off from their shoes on the foyer is now getting tracked in by their socks.
The best way to help reduce this problem is to keep up with the cleanliness of your walkway. If you have a small blower, use it every three days to keep the walkway clean.
You may also want to consider having people step onto a mat, remove their shoes, then step off the mat without having their socks make contact with the mat.
When you do this you may notice an improvement in the cleanliness of your carpets, but nothing you do is going to completely eliminate dirt from getting tracked onto it. That’s why a professional carpeting service is invaluable at least once a year.
