Maintaining a clean and healthy environment within the home doesn’t have to be a full-time job. Many people hire professional cleaning services, such as maids, to come into their home once a week or biweekly, while others have a tendency to focus on cleaning themselves.
Keeping a home clean, though, and safe for all family members is a matter of understanding where the most common bacteria in germ factories happen to be. In most cases, they are not where you think they are.
Most people think that the toilet is the most disgusting and germ-ridden place in the entire house. Keeping it disinfected and clean on a regular basis will certainly limit the amount of bacteria and germs that grow on it, but flushing without closing the lid can allow all of those germs and bacteria to become airborne, collecting on the bathroom sink, toothbrushes, bathroom mats, and other places in the room.
Pay attention to the kitchen. The kitchen contains more germs and bacteria than even the worst bathroom. Pay attention to the sponge and even the dish rag. A towel hanging from the refrigerator handle or oven is also suspect.
Place the sponge in the microwave for 1 to 2 major minutes to kill any germs and bacteria that collect on it. Avoid waking down kitchen table and countertops with the sponge. Instead, use a clean paper towel.
The kitchen sink can be incredibly germ ridden. E. coli and other germs and bacteria can collect in the sink and even the drain. Clean these areas thoroughly with bleach and water on a regular basis.
Salt-and-pepper shakers should also get a regular cleaning. The salt-and-pepper shakers in your kitchen are usually overridden by cold viruses, based on a University of Virginia study. Rhinovirus was the biggest problem and salt-and-pepper shakers the most significant germ hotspot.
Television remotes. Television remotes are one of the few items that almost every single person in the entire house will touch on a regular basis. Wipe it down with a disinfectant on a daily basis. These tips should help to keep you and your family safe and in a cleaner environment at home.
