Getting children to help clean around the house can feel like a major project in itself. Many parents end up just doing the work themselves because they see it as a smoother and easier option to deal with at that time.
It doesn’t have to be such a nightmare. When you use these following tricks … er, we mean tips, they can help encourage children to be more involved in keeping their rooms and the rest of the house clean.
Make it a game.
Kids love games. When you make cleaning into a style of game show, you can have a great deal of fun along with your children. You can make a list of all of the various household chores and need be done, but also include a list of various outfits, especially the type of clothing your kids might want to wear (like adult clothing, play dresses, or even place suits) for fun.
Have the kids choose a chore and then a piece of paper with an outfit written on it (from out of a hat). They have to do the chore wearing that outfit. Set a timer and have them set out to do their chore in that amount of time.
Offer a grand prize.
There’s nothing better for children than the opportunity to win a valuable prize. Whether it’s a special ice cream, a toy, or even extra time playing their favorite videogame, when you offer a grand prize you can help redirect younger children when they get off track.
Hide money around the house.
If you have a variety of rooms that need to be cleaned, you can tell your kids that you’ve hidden money in various rooms and certain areas. For example, you could hide money in a sock drawer and the only way they’re going to find it is to put away their laundry properly.
These are just a few tricks, we mean tips, that could help encourage your own children to take part in keeping your home clean.
