Dust mites are an interesting insect. They can be prevalent in carpeting, under furniture, and even in mattresses. No matter how much carpeting you remove from your home, no matter how many times you vacuum the carpeting that still exist, including area rugs, and no matter how much you dust and clean on a regular basis, you can still have dust mites forming throughout the house.
Some people have such a fear of dust mites and other allergens that they get rid of all carpeting throughout the house. This may be comfortable for them, at least to some degree, but it isn’t practical. Nor is it necessary. Below are three reasons why you may very well still have dust mites in your house even though you got rid of all the carpeting.
Reason #1: Dust mites feed on dead skin cells.
80 percent of the dust in your house is the result of dead skin cells. The human body sheds its skin cells once every seven days, on average. So unless you completely remove the human element from your home, which isn’t practical, you’re still going to have to deal with dust mites.
Reason #2: Dust mites can be attracted to a variety of other places to hide.
Your couch, recliner, and a host of other areas throughout your home could be harbors for dust mites. So even though you get rid of all the carpeting, you may still feel very well be dealing with those pesky insects.
Reason #3: Check the dust under your furniture.
Even though you dust on a regular basis, you might not be getting every single area throughout the home. Just take a quick look under the China cabinet, the entertainment center, or some other piece of furniture using a flashlight. You’ll probably see a pile of dust built up there. Dust mites could very well be hiding within them.
It’s not necessary to remove all the carpeting in your house if you enjoy carpeting just to be free of dust mites. Sometimes all you need is a professional and regular carpet cleaning a couple of times a year.
