Below are three tips that can help you properly care for your leather furniture.

Tip #1: Keep it moist.

It’s important to provide nourishment for the leather. Even though it’s an inanimate object, it comes from rawhide and it’s a vital to make sure it stays moisturized properly.

Just like your skin, if you don’t properly moisturize it, it will dry out, become cracked, and won’t be quite as comfortable as it once had been. It’s a good idea to use linseed oil with white vinegar, two parts to one, and apply it to the leather.

When you apply this, allow it to soak in for 10 minutes and a buff it with a soft cloth. You might need to buff more than once to get the job done right.

Tip #2: Rubbing alcohol.

If there are stains that occurred in the leather furniture, you can use rubbing alcohol with a light cotton swab. Rub the alcohol over the area lightly and then use a blow dryer on low or no heat to dry the area.

If the stain is significant, you may want to apply a thick coat of a non-gel, non-oily cuticle remover. Allow this to set in overnight and then wipe it off with a damp cloth the next day.

Tip #3: Removing darker stains.

If there are darker stains, you can use one part lemon juice and one part cream of tartar. Make a paste of this and then apply it to the area of the leather furniture that is stained. Allow it to set in for 10 minutes and then apply another layer of paste. Use a damp sponge or other damp cloth to wipe it off.
