Keeping your home clean and looking as good as possible may feel like a never ending job. It doesn’t have to be. We have put together five tips that should help you keep your home in great shape, clean, and comfortable, regardless of what day of the week it is.
If you hire a professional cleaning service and they show up on a Monday, for example, by Wednesday your home could feel as though it hasn’t been cleaned in weeks. This is especially true when you have a lot of people living under the same roof, especially children. These tips should help you feel quite a bit better throughout the week.
1. Make sure everyone in the house puts away their personal possessions after they use them.
Getting children to put away their toys, homework, or other items can certainly be frustrating. Establish a rule in which everybody returns the items to their own personal bedroom. You can always close the bedroom door to avoid the mess, but it’s not as easy to keep the living room or family room clean.
2. Assign chores to each family member.
Once dinner is over, the children can certainly clean up, wash the dishes, dry them, and put them away. This helps to keep the dining room or kitchen looking clean every day of the week.
When you assign chores, it could be to earn points or money as a part of an allowance. If you don’t have children, your spouse or partner should certainly be willing to help keep the kitchen area clean.
3. Make the bed every morning.
Even if you feel like you’re rushing around to get to work on time every morning, there’s always enough time to make the bed. If there’s not, wake up five minutes earlier and you have enough time right there. Making the bed helps set the stage for how well you take care of the rest of your house that day.
4. Have people remove their shoes when they come home.
Whether you have guests coming over or kids are coming home after school, they should remove their shoes as soon as they walk in the door. This is especially important during the winter to avoid tracking in snow, road salt, sand, dirt, and any other debris.
5. Spend five minutes a day sweeping or vacuuming.
Vacuum a different room every day and sweep the hall quickly every other day. Just spending a few minutes every day can help you feel as though the house is much cleaner and more comfortable throughout the week.
