While it’s great to hire a professional cleaning service to come into your home and completely wash and clean all of the carpeting and area rugs, there are certain things homeowners should pay closer attention to than they usually do.
One of those areas of the home for most Toronto homeowners that is commonly overlooked and can have a direct impact on the integrity and cleanliness of the entire house is the attic.
Many people store boxes, old furniture, and other items in the attic of their home. It is a convenient storage location because it is out-of-the-way, it is not considered usable living space, and it doesn’t have a direct impact on any other portion of the house. Having a basement that is unfinished could be an ideal storage place, but these tend to have more moisture, dampness, and ultimately mold and mildew problems.
The attic can also harbor mold, but more than anything it can generate an incredible amount of dust that eventually gets into the rest of the house, believe it or not. Allergens that exist in the attic and other irritants can regularly seep into living area through doors, recessed lights, heating and cooling systems, and ceiling hatches. Just because a person doesn’t actually see the dust coming down doesn’t mean it’s not doing that on a regular basis.
Get into the attic at least once every few months to do a thorough cleaning. This may require dusting down walls, vacuuming with a strong vacuum cleaner equipped with a HEPA filter, moving boxes, and much more.
This might not seem like a wonderful activity to take part in, but when you keep the attic clean and dust free on a regular basis, you will notice a lot last less dust building in other rooms in the house. It will also help you and your family breathe easier.
