Making sure you have a healthy environment in your Toronto area home is a matter of effort. You can’t just sit back and expect things to be not only clean, but healthy.
For example, if you have a tendency to let dishes pile up in the sink, you are increasing the chances that mold, mildew, and other problems begin to develop. You’re also going to be attracting insects, such as a gnats, maggots, and more. That’s not a very healthy environment.
While it’s easy to understand the importance of cleaning the dishes after every meal, what about other things in the house?
Here are five steps you should take to improve the health and environment within your home.
Step #1: Vacuum on a consistent basis.
Vacuuming every once in a while is not going to help your carpets, hardwood floors, or area rugs. You need to vacuum at least once a week. If you have numerous people in the house living with you, vacuum more frequently than that.
Step #2: Dust consistently as well.
Every time you vacuum you should dust. This can feel like an overwhelming task, but if you dust one room thoroughly every day, you’ll find that you get the entire house done throughout the week. This will reduce the amount of dust that flies in the air.
Step #3: Open the windows for at least 5 to 10 minutes a day, when possible.
Even during the winter it’s a good idea to open a couple of windows to allow fresh air to circulate through. Yes, you will have to heat the house up afterward because all of that cold air will be pouring in, pushing the hot air out, but that fresh air is going to provide a healthier atmosphere.
Step #4: Consider an air purifier.
If you have people in the household who smoke, or they are allergic to certain things, consider getting an air purifier. This will help to remove a number of allergens and other pollutants from the air.
Step #5: Have your carpets and rugs professionally cleaned every six months.
You may want to do this more frequently than every six months if you have a lot of people coming and going throughout your house. At a minimum, though, it should be done every six months.
