5 Dirty Little Secrets within Your Toronto Area Home

5 dirty little secrets homecleaningEven though you make a valiant effort to keep your Toronto area home spotless with regular cleaning, there are a number of places that most homeowners overlook. These ‘dirty little secrets’ can harbor bacteria, germs, and impact yours and your family’s health and well-being even when you’re not realizing it.

Below are five of these dirty little secrets you should keep in mind when thoroughly cleaning your home.

1. Look under area rugs. There could be a vast sea of grit, grime, and dust that is left over even after vacuuming. It’s a good idea to move furniture, lift the rugs, and clean underneath them every time you thoroughly clean your home.

2. The diabolical disposal. Your garbage disposal, if you have one, will house a significant amount of food, fluids, and other grime that it stirs up when you use it. Carefully disconnect the garbage disposal before cleaning, scrub the underside of the rubber flaps, and use distilled white vinegar with baking soda to clean the entire disposal out.

3. The kitchen vent hood. The vent hood over your stove will collect grease, smoke particles, and other residue that’s a byproduct of cooking. It’s important to change the air filters in these on a regular basis. You should also clean these vents once every season, at least.

4. The crevices between your kitchen cabinets. No matter how many times you wipe down your kitchen cabinets, crumbs, morsels, and even a bit of that chip dip that was spilled will get into these crevices. Use the vacuum cleaner crevice attachment to suck out all of that extra grime and debris.

5. Bathroom vents. The vents in your bathrooms can commonly get overlooked, but when you look up every once in a while you’ll probably see the amount of dust and dirt that gets trapped in there. It gets trapped as the vents are drawing air up and pushing it out of the house to reduce moisture buildup, and ultimately mold and mildew.

Pay attention to these dirty little secrets in your home and you could have a significant impact on your home’s healthy environment.
