Buying a vacuum cleaner may be an afterthought for a lot of homeowners. After all, this is an appliance that you generally need but don’t put much thought into. You may have a tendency to spend several hundred dollars on the best model in the store. Perhaps you visit a specialty store in order to get the most powerful one you can find.
No matter how powerful that vacuum is, it’s important to realize that it’s not enough. You still need to get your carpets professionally cleaned at least every six months. The more often you have this service performed in your house, the cleaner your home will be, the better your air quality will be, and your carpets will last much longer than without these services.
When you set out to buy a new vacuum cleaner, here are three tips that should help you find one that’s actually going to make a positive difference for your carpeting.
Tip #1: Choose one with a HEPA filter.
A HEPA filter is designed to remove as many particulates from the air, or at least your carpeting. Many of these particulates can escape other vacuum cleaners that don’t have a HEPA filter on it. If anybody in your household has allergies or tends to sneeze a lot when you’re cleaning, then a HEPA filter is going to be tremendously beneficial to them.
Tip #2: Avoid shopping based on price or brand.
You can get some quality vacuum cleaners that are considered no name brands for far less than the big ones. Avoid the temptation to simply focus on one particular brand because they happen to be the most expensive or they have the slickest marketing campaigns out there.
Tip #3: Choose a vacuum that has adjustable height configurations.
Some vacuum cleaners cannot be raised or lowered. The more flexibility you have with regard to height, the easier it’s going to be for you to vacuum rugs, plush carpeting, and hardwood floors. If you use a vacuum that does not have a height adjustment, you’re either going to be wearing out the beater bar or not getting the dirt up on those hardwood floors or short pile rugs.
